Wayward Pines: Many Answers and a few new Questions

** Spoilers if you have not seen new episode of Wayward Pines**

I love this show more and more with each new development and I get truly shocked and angry when it ends. Like noooo that can't be the end of episode I need more! We are learning more and getting lots of answers from the previous episode but also a few new questions. Wayward Pines is great with the way they handle plot lines, where the intrigue doesn't frustrate you, yet they are not giving the viewer all the info on a silver platter either.

Wayward Pines picks up from last we saw it two weeks ago; chopper lands in mountain facility where Pilcher and Nurse Pamela (who we later find out is Pilcher's sister, but more on that later) give Ethan a tour of their operations headquarters. Ethan walks by and sees people answering phones, lab set ups and even stumbles across a caged Abbie. So now we know they at least have on of these monsters to study, I am not entirely surprised.

David Pilcher takes Ethan to a room that is set up up to look like the early 1900's and delves into the story of how Wayward Pines came to be and Pilchers' own back story that the audience sees through flashbacks as well. He starts off with his story about how he foresaw (in the mid 1990's) the end of human kind as we knew it due to humans devolving into what the show calls aberrations (Abbies for short). He along with sister Pamela try to spread the word to the world through books lectures and anything else he was capable of doing as a scientist. But no one believed him except the very few followers among them being creepy hypnotherapist turned teacher Hope Davis. Pilcher gets together all the money he can for research of cryogenics he explains to Ethan and says "I had to save some of them." So he works for years to develop these suspended animation tanks if you will to "save" people from end of the world. (But there again Pilcher didn't stick around to see the end of the world so how can he be so sure what would have happened or how fast it may have come about.) He instead gives people "second chances" with people like Terrence Howard character who was a security guard where Pilcher worked and had a criminal past. So naturally... He gets Howard to do his dirty work for him and abducts people to be put in these Cryo tanks to be part of Wayward Pines. Did I mention they figure they need to wait two thousand years for the world to "reset" itself before anyone is getting out of their Cryo tanks. Um Ok?

As he continues to tell Ethan the whole story you can tell Ethan is pretty pissed and doesn't understand why people couldn't just be asked to join and be told the truth about Wayward Pines and that Pilcher should give people more credit. Pilcher does explain to Ethan then that they tried it that way with the first group of people they let out of suspended animation and Group A as he calls it either killed themselves or ran off only to get eaten out in the woods by the abbies. (Hence man made fence etc) So yep he creepily tells Ethan he, his wife, son , Kate (Carla Gugino), they are all a part of Group B. Holy shit OK not cool! I get now though why maybe not a good idea to talk about the past seeing as each and every person only wakes up with their last memory from right before they were abducted. That would be pretty traumatic for anyone and then to find out you'd been kidnapped and all your loved ones were dead since it's 2000 years later but to you it feels like yesterday. Yep that would be a hard pill to swallow I probably may want to stay blissfully ignorant. Obviously the public executions Ethan says have to stop and Pilcher goes on to explain they woke Ethan from his cryo slumber because hes a good person and can probably run the town better then a troubled Howard. 

Weaving through this episode was also a troubled Kate saying she needed to know what was on the other side of fence and so on. (Hopefully Ethan can get back to talk to her before it's too late.) We find out packages are getting delivered from another towns person and Kate's husband is making a bomb in the back of their toy shop. Apparently it seems this small group of people may be looking to bring down the fence. Pilcher and Ethan are shown agreeing obviously this can't happen given the abbies on the other side of that fence. However Ethan doesn't know that Kate is one with the plan, I wonder how he will react to that information. Also we get a possible new mystery with that of Plot 33. Ethan wife being a Realtor now questions her boss who seems like a crazy dick so she backs off. I can't really understand this whole Plot 33 business yet. It's just an empty lot so is it part of Kate's rebel group or something else entirely. Like I said a few new questions what with the bomb and Plot 33. 

Pilcher also does explain that yes Ethan's son knows truth as part of their Group B experiment involves only telling the children of Wayward Pines due to they are shown not to rebel and freak the F--k out as much as the adults had been proven to do. I can tell Ethan doesn't necessarily agree though so maybe he will at least start telling a select few once he gets back home so to speak.

My Bottom Line: Alright, so here are my main two qualms at this point knowing what we now know as the viewer:

A: Still my biggest question that I've discussed in previous posts gets to be how in the hell is Pilcher seen talking to Ethan supervisor back in Seattle. Where Ethan Seattle supervisor asks Pilcher if it's too late to change his mind regarding Ethan I assume. So to me this doesn't seem like Pilchers' last memory before waking from suspended animation obviously so what does that leave? The whole town thing and 4028 a lie? What was the purpose of showing us this in epi one or two I believe but leave that hanging in the air?

B: One of my main problems of this specific episode was how Pilcher just forcibly changed a bunch of peoples possible fates number one. Number two he just didn't even stick around to see out his life and if he was correct about the coming Apocalypse. Of course I get that he feels vindicated once they leave cryo tanks and sees the world looks destroyed but it's kinda like well no shit it's 2000 years later.

How would you feel if you woke up 2000 years later in Wayward Pines? Would you be grateful or pissed that choice was made for you?
