In this episode however, titled I Never Could Love Like That, things focus mainly on Lily (Damon and Stephan's mother) and getting Stephan (Paul Wesley) and Caroline (Candice Accola) back from crazy town. (This continued flipped off humanity switch state they are both in now.) I don't mind one bit though, the pair are actually pretty great to watch being witty, creepy monsters. We also get to see flashbacks from 1903 in which apparently Lily saved Enzo (Michael Malarkey) from consumption; turning him into a vampire. He doesn't appreciate this very much though seeing as she leaves him to fend for himself, literally. (As a viewer I could really care less for this storyline, but it does give a bit of insight into Enzo which I liked, and it sets up back story for who these weirdos are that Lily calls family ... more to come on that later.) Damon spends some time convincing mama Lily to get Stephan to flip his humanity switch back on, though Lily is having a hard time and admits as much to Damon; stating she doesn't really feel the same towards her sons after 150 years. (No shit! She's an evil ripper vampire.) Alas, Damon tells Lily to put on a worthy performance for Stephan's sake and in return he will give her ascendant (magical time travel thingy,) to get back her creepy witch-vampire hybrid family called heretics. Stephan switches his humanity back on (yay!) after speech from his mother he thought was long dead. Elena has a jealous moment early on in episode when she finds out Jo and Alaric (Matthew Davis) are expecting. Meanwhile Damon still keeps mum on vampiric cure. (Setting up future storyline for last few episodes.) Newly restored Stephan is off to hopefully get Caroline back seeing as she bolted when Lily showed up. Basically because she'd rather keep being her evil funny self, which I'm starting to prefer.
I liked how this episode was back to some of its witty banter between the Salvatore brothers. As a game plan ensues trying to pull Caroline back into the humanity fold Elena (Nina Dobrev), Damon Alaric and Jo take turns playing babysitter. Stephan is left having to pretend to still be evil seeing as he is key to getting Caroline to turn her humanity back on. Bonnie (Kat Graham) shares some banter with Damon (which I always enjoy), but things soon turn sour when Damon later gives evil Lily the ascendant in exchange for the vampire cure vial. Enzo is able to confront Lily for leaving him in 1903. This time she remembers him and explains she wouldn't have abandoned him but she and her companions had been taken by the Gemini coven of witches. Damon and Elena have a cute (if not slightly painful) fantasy about what five years in future would look like if they were human. Caroline overhears and then bitchily mocks Elena in a very trite way which is cringworthy to watch. What thank goodness ultimately restores Caroline back to humanity is seeing her mothers memories through Stephan's eyes. She is then devastated by everything she has done, especially burning her mothers letter while she was not herself. By the conclusion of the episode titled Because Elena is left stunned finding out Damon hadn't told her he had cure, but he surprises her even further when he says he was just scared to lose her but doesn't intend to live without her in any case and will take cure with her. Yeah right! We'll see how that one turns out... lol
Alaric and Jo (Jodi Lyn O'Keefe) try to be good sports about their bachelor and bachelorette parties; the one guys throw is much bigger. At the bachelorette party which is just eating junk food seeing as Jo is preggers, Bonnie tells Elena that Damon had called to vent to her about Elena not responding to the whole 'lets be humans together' proposal. The bachelor party talk is just Alaric asking Damon if he is even sure he wants to take cure and what repercussions would be. Also Matt (Zach Roerig) gets in a noble word telling Alaric to get out of town while he and his soon to be family are still happy and healthy. Lily also gets a pep talk from son Stephan; Ripper-to-Ripper.(That talk doesn't go too well though, seeing as she soon after turns her anger on Bonnie for destroying ascendant.) Enzo then boastingly tells Stephan that his brother Damon is planning to take cure, much to Stephan's surprise. Elena and Damon, (that don't know what's going on with their friends and family) are out on a romantic walk while discussing their favorite parts of being a vampire. Damon recreates her childhood home for her in her head and cuteness ensues while they reminisce on their past. Elena then takes cure and she is immediately pulled through all her past memories of her and Damon she had Alaric compel away when she had thought Damon was dead earlier in season. Unfortunately there's no rest for the wicked... Stephan calls Damon telling him now is not a good time to be human as mama Lily is on a rampage and soon after she snaps Damon's neck (thank god hes still a vampire lol) and goes after Elena who luckily gets away. By the end of I'd leave my Happy Home for You Lily is locked up vowing vengeance, (what else is new in these types of shows) and Elena is basically telling Damon he needs to rethink this whole being human business.
My Bottom Line: Like I said, I tune into this show on and off. Its one of the types of shows that when its good its good and when its bad its bad. (I stopped watching for a season in the past.) I am interested enough however to see how they end Nina Dobrev's storyline. Can a season seven deliver ? I'm not too sure... Maybe Dobrev's exit will give it a bit of life for its last lap, or kill it completely who knows. I'll tune into the first few episodes of season 7 next year to see if TVD is worth it sans its main lead.
